Condolences

Condolence From: Sheila Grier Gallagher
Condolence: My dear Sally,
It's been some time since we connected but I've thought so frequently and so fondly of you and was aware of Michael's failing. Now here I am to offer you my deepest sympathy. What an outstanding and compassionate person Michael was. Although its been a few years since we were together, I remember well his warm and inviting personality. I go back to Trinity (brother Terry), LCS, then UCC and his so many deeply admired accomplishments. Michael's love of cricket (my Father's too, who started the first cricket team at UCC when he was teaching there long prior to Michael), then at Bishop's and on it goes. Should I mention Michael's tolerating your real estate years ? (I'm in my 44th year !) What a gem he was. I want you to know my heart is with you and the family at this very sad time. My love and blessings to you all, Sheila Gallagher

Condolence: Gently twirling his spectacles …
Mr. Adamson was UCC’s gentleman scholar.
I never had the privilege of his classroom teaching, but I learned much from our many meetings in the Vice-Principal’s office; he was alternately dry, bemused, firm, but always principled and fair. He was, to the core, a kind man.
His opinion - be it disapproving or complimentary - carried such weight , because he was utterly trustworthy in his every word and deed. Perhaps this explains his great success in the Vice- Principal’s position – which sits as an arbiter between unruly boys, and staff members, and the structural insistence of a traditional institution.
He was fair, dependable and kind; and in that constancy, he showed us all what it was to be a gentleman.

Condolence: I have fond memories of Coach both at school and on tour. He always had a firm hand tempered with a sense of humor, which was necessary when dealing with our somewhat rebellious bunch, particularly on the great class of '71 cricket team. I'll never forget his look of dismay on the team bus in Vancouver, when Gillespie was crapping on Canadian football while our gracious host, Vic Spencer (a former CFL great) was about to blow a gasket! Zeke was one of those masters who made sense out of UCC life. And I'll be forever grateful that he designed the Survivors tie! And, we all know, that behind every successful man is a good woman. Bless you, Sally.

Condolence: I remember "Mr. Adamson" first from at the house when playing with my Colin Avenue neighbor David, and then later when I was at UCC. The role of VP has got to be one of the hardest in any school but his kindness and firmness were always apparent. The only time I received a gating is when I skipped off to line up for Rolling Stones tickets. He was having a hard time not laughing while giving me the detention. He has left a great educator's legacy. My sincerest regards.

Condolence: Hello Sally:
How very sad to learn of Michael's death. My mother died this past November at age 98 so with her passing and now Michael's I am overwhelmed with great, fond memories. He was a fine French teacher in Grade 13 and I recall how he marvelled (not necessarily with approval) at my Quebecois accent that I returned to class with one fall. As a VP at UCC, he was dignified and highly respected by all. During Dick Sadleir's sabbatical, all of us teachers marvelled at how Michael did everything to keep the school running and he still had time to sit in the Common Room to read the paper. Would that we could have him at the College still. It seems that we need 3 or 4 people to do what Michael could still have done tout seul. Mary-Michaele Lowndes (Sabia) often invoke his name as a consummate example of leadership in a friendly, firm manner. And we always will. My sincere condolences to you and family members.

Condolence: sally and family:
it was indeed sad news to hear about "Coach"
Adamson's transition.....I will never forget
his dedication and passion for the game of cricket at UCC and Canada. I am still playing here in Victoria BC and am also promoting the College's 150th anniversary of Old Boys vs First XI..also i will always be grateful for " Coach's" assistance in securing the Jubilee 150 position in 1979.
When i dropped intom the College in late '78
to say hello..Coach told me thet Dick Sadleir was looking for a Jubileeman to facilitate the 1979/80 150th! I got the job thanks to Coach's help!
Play up! PLAY UP! AND PLAY THE GREAT GAME OF cRICKET!

Condolence: Dear Mrs Adamson,

It was with great sadness that I read Principal Powers tribute to Mr Adamson - Zeke - as he was known - I remember fondly the times that you both came to Bermuda and stayed with my parents with the cricket team - even though I did not have him as a teacher or coach - I knew that he was always there to help if needed - he would always stop me in the hall to make sure that I was ok - I always remember the pipe - I agree with the statement that he is the ultimate gentleman.

Pam and I send our love - Andrew

Condolence: We were very sorry to hear about Michael's passing. We will miss waving to him sitting in your screened in porch as we walked by with the dogs. It was like he was always watching for us and always waved back. We will think of him everytime we walk by. Your neighbours The Butlers

Condolence: Mike tried valiantly and with much patience to teach me French for two years at UCC in the early 1970's. The difficulties were due entirely to me. I remember him as a warm, kind, gentle and principled man. He treated boys with respect and expected no less back. It was rare for him to have to raise his voice as he just naturally won our respect. He was a great example of decency and dignity and made UCC a better school. I am grateful for both his teaching and his example. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by his extended family. My sincere condolences to all of you.
