Life Story for William Edward Plumer

William Edward Plumer
PLUMER, William Edward- The family of William (Bill) Edward Plumer are saddened to announce his passing on March 15, 2018 in his 99th year. He was a loving husband of Ruth (Blank) Plumer (1988) and Jeanette (Braid) Plumer (2011). His six children, Lynne (Ernie 2017) Matschke, Lee (Tom) Normet, Kristen (John 1984) Peters, Michael Plumer, Truda (John) Howard, and Betty (Chris) Paton knew him as an ever-interesting, charming father who never ceased to amaze family and friends. He had one sister, Doris Hipwell (2011) who married his best friend Jack. He will be missed by his niece, Jo-Anne Trousdale and nephew John Hipwell, who were always generous with their time.
His 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren had the utmost respect for him and loved to hear his entertaining stories of the past and recent escapades. He was always ready for new experiences, including building a cottage at Long Point, camping, travelling to Europe, helicopter rides, new cars or motorcycles. Family get-togethers were never complete until he arrived, usually with another story to share.
Bill was a Lay-reader for over 50 years, received the Order of Niagara in 2012 and was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He fought with the RAF in Britain during WW II, was a proud member of the NOTL Legion and also of the local Oddfellows Lodges. His Remembrance Day speeches at St. Marks were very well received for many years.
He strongly believed in having a “purpose to your day” and in retirement after a career with TRW in St. Catharines, was a tireless supporter in the church and many community organizations. He always considered himself “a lucky man.”
Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Morgan Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake on April 18, 2018 at 2 pm with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations to Hospice Niagara or St. Marks Church would be appreciated.
