Condolence: Max... my deepest sympathies. I never met your father but have admired him for decades for the transformative contributions he has made. Having grown up (in the 50's) across from the Chateau Gai Winery, I know first hand what the state of the Niagara wine industry was in before Inniskillen changed things forever... his influence improved so many aspects of our lives in Niagara.

Condolence From: Richard (Rick) Hiscott
Condolence: First, I offer my sincerely condolences to Silva, Karl's children and grandchildren. I might have been the first person to befriend Karl as we both started first year undergraduate programs at Brock University in 1970. Skiing is not mentioned in the obituary, but he was a fine (one-time competitive) skier and I once went with him to Fonthill, to that small hill (I ended up with a cut on my face from a crash). Later, I helped Karl "defuse" a batch of overpressured "champagne" at his house, and ended up quite tipsy. A group of about 7 of us supported one another through 1st to 3rd year chemistry and math courses (Barb, JR, Henry, John, Karl, myself). At that time, not yet famous from wine making, Karl was (and I am sure remained) a kind, generous, dependable and humorous friend. It is sad to hear of his death, but I know that he led a full life, and influenced may people along the way. Even though I have not spoken with Karl since probably 1974, my memories of him remain fresh as if lived yesterday. It was an honour to have had his friendship.

Condolence: What an honour to have known this special fellow. My interest in wine to a degree began with the vision and efforts of Karl and Don--amazing pioneers. Karl's superior intellect played a significant role in placing Canada within the wine world. His kindness and gracious sense of providing others with support will long be remembered. Raise a glass to a very good man.

Condolence: Karl was a mentor, adviser and more importantly a legacy. Karl your contributions to my understanding of wine and all the chemical aspects related will forever be more valuable to me than I could ever express. You lived and you made your contributions to generations of winemakers to follow but they have some mighty big shoes to fill. You are going to be so greatly missed by me but thank you for all the memories and lessons that will live on. Sincere condolences to his entire family. Raising a glass to you Karl!

Condolence From: Doug Beatty
Condolence: To my friends, Andrea and Magdalena and families...sincerely sorry for your personal loss as I am aware of what your dad meant to you and, I imagine, what you two and your families meant to him. People with closer, personal ties to Dr. Kaiser will weigh in on his passing with heavy hearts and though, regretfully, I didn't have a personal relationship with your dad, I know very well what his vision and intrepid nature have meant to the entire wine industry in this country. I doubt that it would be as far along as it is today without his contributions and dedication. I will always have an image of your Dad with his hat and today, I tip mine in his honour. Know that we are thinking of you and your family at this time. Doug & Patti Beatty

Condolence From: Andy Reynolds
Condolence: To Karl's family: Please accept my heartfelt sympathies. Karl has been a friend for almost 40 years. A fond memory: Back in about 1981, Karl gave a talk at the Beacon in Jordan Harbour at the Canadian Society of Oenologists meeting on "wine deacidification". No slides, no such thing as powerpoint, just Karl and a piece of white chalk and a blackboard. By the end, the blackboard looked as if an A-bomb full of chalk had exploded in front of it! Needless to say, the audience was both entertained and edified. And, everyone, including oldtimers who had been making wines since the 1940s, were much more enlightened about wine deacification. When Dr Cade asked me back in '96 who should teach Wine Chemistry, a brand new course, without hesitation I said, Karl Kaiser. He will be missed. I will most sincerely miss him.

Condolence: I had the privilege of working at Inniskillin from 2009 to 2016 , and I was always very proud to share with tourists Karl's role in creating the Ontario wine industry. One time he came to the winery to visit Debi. He was wearing his bike helmet and I didn't recognize him. I welcomed him to Inniskillin. I don't think I offered him a tour, but he was very gracious and just asked for Debi. I am saddened by his passing and his loss to Ontario.
