BURGERS, Helen Daphne (nee Nardell)
Passed away peacefully at her home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, surrounded by family, on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the age of 72. Helen was a brilliant mind of a generation having graduated with first class honours at St. Anne’s College, Oxford University. Born in Bradford, England, she immigrated to Canada in 1969. She had an outstanding career with the Canadian civil service as well as being an entrepreneur owning a business with her husband and daughters in Ottawa.
Beloved mother of Sharon Steinberg (Mike Wadham), Abigail Steinberg (Adam Edwards), Nicole Hepworth (Chad L’Hirondelle) and Paul Burgers (pre-deceased). Proud grandmother of Anthony and Patrick Wadham. She will also be missed by her mother Jeannette Livingstone (Charles), brother Philip Nardell and sister Charmaine Mattison (Mark), sisters-in-law Marianne Brown (Hugh), Diesje Henderson (Bob), brother-in-law Ed (Barb), nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. Predeceased by her husband Hendrik Burgers and father Cyril Nardell.
The family will receive friends at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake for visitations on Tuesday, November 7th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Service will be held in the chapel Wednesday, November 8th at 1 p.m. Private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Niagara or the Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab would be appreciated.
