DERBYSHIRE, Vera - It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Vera Derbyshire, on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 94 years. Vera was the beloved wife of Al for 69 years and loving mother of Mark (Shannon). She was also the cherished grandmother of Daulton and Elijah. Vera was involved in many ways in her community. She was a longtime member of Grace United Church. Vera also served with the Hospital Auxiliary for seventy years. During that time, she was a member of the Hospital Board and served as Governor for several years. Vera was also a Charter member of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Cancer Society. In her leisure time, Vera was an active member of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club. She supervised the Juniors for a number of years and served on the Board of Directors. Vera won one Ladies Championship and eleven Senior Ladies Championships. She was also a passionate bridge player and a longtime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
The family will receive friends at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent St., Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be celebrated at Grace United Church, 222 Victoria St., Niagara-on-the-Lake on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. For those who wish, memorial donations to Grace United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
