Life Story for Eileen Bend (Kempster)

BEND Eileen - Passed away very comfortably and peacefully at the age of 98 on December 21, 2016 at Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake where she had been living for the past six years, well cared for by a wonderful staff. Eileen was born June 16, 1918 in Wallasey, England. She worked in Liverpool for Cunard Shipping and then volunteered in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force Services during WWII. This is where she met her husband, Ken. They were married for almost 70 years, until his passing three years ago. Eileen and Ken emigrated from England to Canada in 1958 and spent most of their working life in Burlington, Ontario. Eileen attended Teachers' College at the age of 45 and completed her teacher's training in a two-room country school in Puslinch where she taught Grades 1-4 for two years. Eileen and Ken moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake almost 30 years ago, where Eileen enjoyed playing badminton and riding her bicycle several times a day until the age of 91. She lived her life as a humanitarian and a lover of nature and the arts. Eileen will be remembered lovingly by her two daughters, Jacqui and Jill, her three grandsons, Geoff, Tim and Adam and four grandchildren, Kennedy, Paige, Gavin and Jaelyn.
As per Eileen's request, cremation has already taken place. Those who wish may make a donation to Upper Canada Lodge in Eileen's honour. Arrangements are entrusted with Morgan Funeral Home.
