Sylvia Ruth Yonke (Lepp)
YONKE, Sylvia Ruth (Lepp) - May 22, 1942 – March 5, 2014
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sylvia Yonke. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Hospice Niagara in St. Catharines, following a lengthy struggle with cancer.
She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband, Eric and daughter Kathie (Ray). She is survived by her brothers and sisters Richard (Betty Anne), Eric (Barbara), Judith (Bernard), Kate and Thom, who will all miss her dearly. Sylvia is predeceased by her parents John and Katharine Lepp.
Her love and support will be missed by her grandchildren: Mats and Finn, her nieces and nephews: Kristin, Heidi, Jason (Nina), Julie (Jeff), Olivia (Alex), Emilie (Eivind), Ethan (Melissa), Eric (Petra), Corinna (Mike), Jonathan, Lukas, Evan, Malcolm and Isaac, her great nieces and nephews: Benjamin, Dallas, Paxton, Caitlin, William, Jessie, Joshua, Eliana, Mathias, Eleni, Audrey, Tyler, Matteo, Henrik, Arwen, Amelia and Adelaide, her very special friends Mona and Mikal.
Sylvia was born in Vineland in 1942. She lived in St. Catharines, Kitchener-Waterloo, Peterborough, and Ottawa finally settling in Niagara-on-the-Lake. She made many deep and lasting friendships everywhere she lived. Sylvia was a great hostess and she loved to travel but her greatest joy was her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She had a tender heart and generous spirit and was loved by all who knew her.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Hospice Niagara. Their compassion and caring towards Sylvia and the family was endless. They would also like to thank the staff of St. Elizabeth for the compassionate care they provided while Sylvia was at home. A special thank you to Dr. Luigi Riccardi for his kind attention and support.
There will be a private family funeral service on Saturday March 7, 2014. Friends are invited to join the family for celebration of Sylvia’s life, planned for Sunday July 20, 2014 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Please contact the family for additional information.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MORGAN FUNERAL HOME. If desired, memorial donations to Hospice Niagara would be welcomed by the family.
