Life Story for William Baird "Bill" Talbot

William Baird "Bill"  Talbot
TALBOT, William Baird - Passed away at Upper Canada Lodge on July 3, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer disease. Born in London,Ontario May 1, 1925, he grew up in Mount Brydges, Ontario. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the war in the Battle of the Atlantic and was proud to serve his country. After the war he married Muriel (nee Moffatt) his wife of 65 years. He retired after a successful 30 year career with Samsonite Canada, to Niagara on the Lake where he made new friends and became very active in Grace United Church as an elder. He was an active volunteer, serving as president of the local Heart & Stroke Foundation, working for Newark Neighbours, Meals on Wheels and other charities. Bill loved people, he loved to go up to the cottage, swimming every day, sailing and canoeing with his dog. He is predeceased by his sister Evelyn McCracken, and survived by his wife Muriel Talbot, brother Harold Talbot, daughters Wendy Talbot and Mary Jane Salpeter (husband Harry Salpeter), his son Bill Talbot (deceased partner Michael Barratt); His grandchildren Alanna, Tamara, and Rebecca Salpeter and other family members across the country. Bill had a big generous heart and will be missed. The family would like to thank all the staff at Upper Canada Lodge for their exceptional care and support throughout the years, and to Dr. Reimer and his staff.
The family will receive friends at MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the Lake, Thursday July 4, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Grace United Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Friday July 5, 2013 at 3 p.m. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
