Our sincere sympathy to you in your loss. While we have not been neighbours for a long time, it has been a comfort to us that you are there. Joan, I know that you have a large and loving family, but if we can help in any way during the difficult period ahead, please call.

Condolence: Dear Aunt Joan, Digby, David and Jen and the rest of the family,

It is times likes these, when we are so far away, that our hearts break in not being closer to NOTL.

Such fond memories - of Mom and Dad taking us for a Sunday drive to the Falls to see "Uncle John, Aunt Joan and the kids", of poking a head into Uncle John's office at the CIBC to say "Hi" after seeing Flo at the tellers' counter - in return, a smile and a "What are you up to sonny?", of Uncles John, Allen, Gary, Donald and Dad sitting together at many a family gathering to share a story and a laugh, of Grandma clasping Uncle John's face and giving him a big kiss on the cheek (with some lipstick left behind), of Uncle John reminding me so much of Grandpa with their common love and care of garden, children, grandchildren and greats - all bringing a smile, and tears, to my face as I sit here.

Kathryn asked me the other day why I was looking so sad. I said "because I am thinking of Uncle John". She told me not to worry, that he was happy in heaven enjoying a rum and coke with Grandpa and Uncle Allen. The image was a good one. Who says there is no wisdom in a 13 year old?

Please be assured of our prayers and thoughts across the miles at this time.

Love, Kevin, Debbie, Kathryn and Sarah in Auckland

Condolence: Dear Auntie Joan, Digby, David, Jennifer & families, I have known Uncle John for 50 years, ever since I was a kid in Vineland, back in the day when the Elliotts lived in the bank. Uncle John was always friendly, easygoing and laidback--and he never changed. And so funny! How many times, after someone said something funny, did you hear Uncle John fire off a deadpan zinger that would crack everyone up. He had perfect timing. Because I live so far way, I haven't seen the family for many years, so I was thrilled to see Uncle John and Auntie Joan last summer. I was happy to hear his laugh again--and Aunty Joan's too. I know you will all miss him so much, especially you, Auntie Joan. I rarely saw you apart. The day I heard that Uncle John passed away, I felt so sad, and I couldn't stop feeling that sadness. But the next day I woke up and somehow I knew, everything was fine with Uncle John. Godspeed!
Love,
Jan

Condolence: John and I were part of a foursome for a few years at NOTL Golf Course. I always enjoyed our rounds together and especially his dry sense of humour. It was always advisable to stand well back and to the left of John on the T to avoid that wicked slice. Tip o' the hat old friend.

Condolence: Although an honorary uncle to our family he was my favourite. You couldn't help but laugh at all his wisecracks. He will be missed. Love, Wendy
